Our curriculum develops pupil’s aspirations so that they strive to be the best that they can be. We encourage our pupils to become independent, responsible citizens who show an awareness of what is morally right and wrong. Our PSHE curriculum aims to equip pupils with a deep understanding and good development of social and moral beliefs. In addition to this, we aim to equip our pupils with the knowledge of how to manage their own and others’ emotions in a sensitive and productive way. Through extra-curricular days and opportunities, we aim to enrich our pupils’ time in our school with experiences to aid learning. We carefully plan the subject knowledge, skills and vocabulary, coupled with specific Aspire character virtues and learning behaviours, so that our students have the tools to be successful in learning and in life.
At Colley Lane Primary Academy we aim to provide a PSHE curriculum that is creative, inclusive, challenging and inspired by the real-world. It stimulates curiosity, inspires the practice of fundamental British Values and encourages children to be philosophical in considering and sharing their views. We plan our lessons using thePSHE association scheme of work
The National Curriculum states that ‘Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education is an important and necessary part of all pupils’ education.
The Primary National Curriculum for PSHE aims to ensure that all pupils:
are taught the fundamental building blocks and characteristics of positive relationships, family relationships, and relationships with other children and adults.
are taught how to respect others in an age-appropriate way
are taught about positive emotional and mental wellbeing, including how friendships can support emotional wellbeing.
understand what sorts of boundaries are appropriate in friendships with peers and others (including in a digital context)
The Jigsaw scheme of work is mapped out against the statements from the National Curriculum.
As part of RSE becoming a statutory part of the national curriculum, parents have been consulted about the content included within the PSHE Association framework. We use the PSHE Association scheme to help facilitate the planning and delivery of the RSE curriculum. Lessons are mapped out against the statutory guidance within the National Curriculum. Lessons are delivered in a factual and sensitive manner, ensuring no judgements are made. The RSE lesson plans have been shared with all stakeholders to ensure they are appropriately delivered and age-related.
We use formative assessment in every PSHE lesson.. Reviews in PSHE include book looks, lesson visits and pupil and staff voice. All of this information is gathered and reviewed. It is used to inform further curriculum developments and provision is adapted accordingly.
