This month's choices are:

Dudley also has a public health website.

www.healthydudley.co.uk is the new address for guidance from Dudley Public Health and Wellbeing.

From recipe ideas, cancer screening and immunisations to healthy pregnancies or ageing well, the website provides insight for all the family.

The website provides information and resources for improving health and wellbeing, covering all life stages from pregnancy and early life to healthy ageing.

Get the latest wellbeing information and join in with campaigns, projects and local activities that promote health and wellbeing.  Use free resources to help plan for later life, cook healthy recipes, and tools to manage stress and cope with bereavement.

The website is also a tool to become more active, stop smoking and stay a healthy weight.

Did you know that Places of Welcome exist across Dudley borough?

Places of Welcome are run by local community groups who want everyone in their neighbourhood to have a place to go for a friendly face, a free hot drink and a conversation if and when they need it.

Each Place of Welcome is unique but all provide a place for people to connect with one another, find belonging and offer gifts and skills that interest them.

Places of Welcome take place in a variety of different venues including churches, community centres, libraries, mosques, temples and other community group buildings.

If you are visiting a Place of Welcome for the first time, check with the venue that they will be open as usual.

Find out more about Places of Welcome or join the Dudley Network by going to the Places of Welcome Webpage

Protection from winter illnesses

Boxing gloves

Summer may not yet be over, yet health professionals are already looking to protect people from winter illnesses.

Flu vaccination

From September the people invited to have their flu vaccination will include:

  • Pregnant women
  • Children aged two and three
  • School children from reception to year 11
  • Children with clinical risk

From October the invite will extend to:

  • Those aged 65 and over
  • Care home residents
  • Front line health and social care workers

Look out for invites from your GP surgery and consent forms from your children’s schools.

RSV

Two new respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccination programmes will be introduced in September.

1) To protect infants by vaccinating pregnant women (from 28 weeks)

2) For older adults aged 75 to 79 years old

RSV is a common virus, but for some, it can be much more serious. The new vaccination will help to prevent thousands of cases of RSV, GP visits and hospital admissions.
